Anjan(da) was born in Calcutta, India, on 1st October 1950. He was always very dedicated to learning and education and undertook many educational endeavors. He graduated from South Point School and then completed his degree in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University.
Anjan(da) travelled abroad to Canada, where he completed his Masters in Engineering. He then migrated to the United States and completed Masters of Business Administration (MBA). Just as Anjan(da) was deeply dedicated to his education, he was equally dedicated to his career. He spent many years of his career at Bechtel Corporation. He then moved onto Southern California Edison where his career continued to grow and flourish.
Anjan(da)'s dedication can also be seen in his immense contributions to the community that nurtured him. His love of community work and organizing events began early with his involvement in the many "padar" pujas at Ballygunj Place Durgabadi while he was growing up. Using his financial background effectively, he served as the Treasurer for many years for several organizations such as Krishti, BASC, Pratham and for the National Bengali Conference (Bangla Sammelan) held in LA in 1993.
Anjan(da) served as the president of BASC during 2006-2008. His tenure as BASC president will be remembered for great food and popular functions, his amiable presence and ever-present smile. He was a founding member of the Los Angeles Pratham chapter and served with deep commitment for the last nine years as treasurer and VP. Pratham is the largest NGO in India educating poor children in the slums and villages of India.
On a personal front, Anjan(da) was a great friend and mentor to many in the community. Most importantly, Anjan(da) was a dedicated loving husband and father.
BASC members will always remember his smiling face at the Puja collection table keeping things under control. We have lost a great friend of the community.
