Highlights

Haripada Haribol by Phoenix Drama Group

Original Story - Anton Chekhov
Dramatization in Bengali - Indrashish Lahiri
Direction - Roopanjana Sengupta

The play "Haripada Haribol" is a farcical satire . Extremely funny depicting the hierarchical classification in the society and the fear as well as awe instilled amongst the subordinates for their Boss. The system discourages individuals to identify as well as recognize their own worth/value. Though serious thought is being propagated however it is done in the form of a satire which is very funny. The play is not a slapstick. The play revolves around Haripada clerk and his boss ,his wife and his friend . In their mundane living something like a sneeze or a "hachoo" changes their life and experiences completely.

Chayyanot by Los Angeles Drama Group

Drama: Utpal Dutta
Direction: Kalachand Seal

The play "Chayanot" is written by the doyen of Kolkata stage - Utpal Dutta. The play was first staged in 1958 by Little Theater by stalwarts like Utpal Dutta, Rabi Ghosh, Shobha Sen and Bhola Dutta on stage. “Chayanot" is a very funny comedy about the film industry. It pokes fun at how “masala" movies are created and at the typical characters that are associated with the industry. The industry does not care about the quality of the production, technical skills or acting prowess. Profit is the sole motive "foot mepe poisa adaay kora". Beneath the veneer of the comedy, however, lurk the pain and the sacrifice suffered by the actors and the technicians.

Borda by Naye Natua

Story: Munshi Premchand
Direction & Acting: Goutam Halder
Camera and acting: Dyuti Ghosh

Goutam Halder is one of premier theater actors and directors on Kolkata stage, as well as a film director. Goutam has acted and directed dramas for Nandikar. He has also directed a bengali feature films and documentary films. Goutam is bringing his critically acclaimed drama, "Borda Borda" to Los Angeles It is a story of two brothers. The younger one is truant, and the elder is an all-work Jack. One is nine, and the other, fourteen. Yet it is the younger that comes first in the exams on every term, and the older repeats the story of his failure. The younger brother, now an aged man, recounts his childhood days in an interview before a camera. As we listen to the interview and watch it at the same time, the image of the ridiculous man in the elder brother fades into the larger–than–life image of a man who brings before us the essence of family ties, social bonding, education, and the values inherited. We listen, feel, and learn on the stage and across; so does, as it seem, the author himself having his story retold from letter to dramatics.
